Who is to blame here?

This story is about a wrongly-accused man and the question I had is: who is to blame? Was it the police for releasing his name to the public before finding probable cause that he was the carjacker? Or was it the media for publishing the name?

Here's the story.

I believe that the person who was robbed and the cops are to blame. Gallant was at the wrong place wearing the wrong clothes and was wrongfully charged. Its his right to get what is coming to him. Even though he was released and has no charged leveled against him and the real robber has been caught, this was a pretty big mistake.

I think the Cops are to blame for this. They shouldn't have released his name until they were 100% it was him. All they had was that he was in the same place and matched the description. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I don't think it was the Media's fault. They don't care if the person is innocent or guilty, If they have the name they will release it to the public. The police should get their facts before releasing information.

Decker: How was the person who was robbed to blame?

Mike: You make a good point about the media: reporters are going to report what the cops tell them.

The person who was robbed was to blame because they pointed the finger at the wrong person. the cops are to blame because they caught they wrong person.

I believe that the Cops are to blame for wrongfully accusing and arresting Gallant. If they had checked evidence, and other factors before releasing his name to the public than the media wouldn't have been able to release his name. The Cops shouldn't have released Gallant's name without being completely sure that he was the carjacker. The media isn't to blame, because, like Mike said, they'll report whatever they get. It's their job. It's the cops job to make sure they catch the right person.

I believe that in this story, the cops are to blame for releasing Gallant's name without even knowing if he was guilty or not. I don't think that the media is to blame for this, because they don't care if the person is guilty or not, as long as they recieve the news, they admiteditly release the story. All in all this was a horrible mistake and I believe that Gallant should press charges.
