In the news business, it is considered unethical to tamper with photos. In fact, it is considered as bad as making up quotes and can get you fired. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen, which this article illustrates.
For Monday, I'd like you to read this article and write a comment of at least 50 words, giving your opinion on this issue. A good response will refer to 2 or 3 of the examples in the story.

I think it is wrong to doctor those pictures and make them different then what they appear to be. The magizines and newspapers owe to their readers honesty and truth. It is not fair to the readers to not show honesty in what they produce. In some of the picures, like the one of Sarah Palin, you can tell it is a changed picture. They just make them to have a story and create controversy.
I think that it is wrong to doctor photos of other people in magazines and make them appear different from what they truly are. When the pictures are changed it creates more difficulties for the publisher and the reader or person in the picture. It isn't far to the person in the picture to which the picture is being doctored.
I think that it is wrong to tamper with photos and make people think that what they're seeing is real when in reality it's not. Especially the magazine covers, because so many people read magazines, that when they tamper with photos it gives people untrue images about what's going on. In some pictures, you can tell that it was remastered, but in others you can't, and thats just unfair to to readers.
I think it's unethical to tamper with people's photos. For example, in the December 1997 photograph of Kenny and Bobbi McCaughy, they tampered with her photo to make her "more attractive". It's wrong to basically edit people to make them more pleasing to the public.
I believe that tampering with facts, whether they be pictures or words is wrong. As a newspaper, you have the duty to tell the uncensored truth. If you hided it because you don't like what you see, you are a coward.
